Excellent observation. Believe it or not, I deliberately loaded the panel with thick gesso to try and create an impasto-like surface to paint on. I wanted chunky but you are right, I got distracting instead. Lesson learned!
I like this one of your paintings. I think you have good technique I would consider you an impressionist. This flower though has some drama or some contrast and I like that. I think you have good skill... I'd like to see you try some different subject matter. city scene, action or even a theme. p.s. I arrived here from your post on S.A. Craigslist.
Todd, I can see that you are interested in the study of nature as a focas for your work. Check out the Ingbretson Studio in Manchester NH. www.ingbretsonstudio.com. I believe it's right up your alley.
My name is Todd Bonita, I'm an oil painter from the New Hampshire sea coast. This blog page is to journal my progress at the easel. Please feel free to contact me at tmbonita@gmail.com.

Very lifelike. I feel I can almost reach into the painting and pick up the rose.
Thanks for looking, I enjoyed painting on this larger scale and plan to do more.
Try not to paint over existing paintings on a canvas...the texture underneath shows and is distracting..but beautiful work.
Thanks Pj,

Thank you, I'm working on a small landscape right now, we'll see how that goes.
